The short answer
- What it means: Walmart reasonable price not satisfied is the reason code for an offer whose total price sits well above recent prices for the same item.
- Why your own price counts: the comparison covers competing websites, and Amazon or Shopify can be one of them.
- Shipping counts too: Walmart reviews the listing price and the shipping fee together.
- The fix: bring the total price toward the reference price Walmart shows. Walmart republishes the offer automatically, typically within 48 hours, once the item meets the rule again.
- Before a promotion: compare the Walmart total with your sale price elsewhere first, so a discount does not open a gap the rule can see.
- Canada differs: Walmart.ca counts a cheaper price from other sellers on any other online channel, shipping included.
Walmart reasonable price not satisfied is the reason your item has gone from the site, and the report gives no other clue. It reads like a product fault, so the first instinct is to hunt for a missing image or a wrong attribute.
The reason is about price. Walmart's troubleshooting guide says an offer can be unpublished when it is priced egregiously higher than prices currently or recently offered for the same item. The comparison is not limited to Walmart. It covers competing websites, and that can include the lower price you run on Amazon or on your own Shopify store.
This post covers how the rule works, how to tell if it is your problem, the order to check things in, and how to stop it happening during a promotion.
- 01
Your lower price elsewhere
Possibly on Amazon, or on your own Shopify store, for the same item.
- 02
Walmart's reference price
Built from your historical price, the Buy Box winner's price, the average offer price and Walmart's own prices.
- 03
Total price, shipping included
Walmart reviews the listing price and the shipping fee together.
- 04
Unpublished
Reason code: Reasonable Price Not Satisfied.
The fix: move the total toward the reference price Walmart shows. Walmart republishes the offer automatically once the item meets the rule again, typically within 48 hours.
Why this happens
Walmart runs the pricing rule on every offer. Its guide says Walmart "calculates a competitive reference price for each item using price points from competitor websites". The rule then sets your delivered price against that reference. The guide lists the inputs as your historical selling price, the Buy Box winner's price, the average offer price, and Walmart's own online and store prices.
Two words in Walmart's wording decide most of the risk. The first is competitor. Walmart does not list the sites it reads. Its Pricing rules page describes the comparison as prices "on Walmart.com, a competing website". Amazon is a competing website for the same item. So is your own Shopify store, if it sells the same product for less. That is my reading of the rule, not a line Walmart prints.
The second is recently. The reference uses prices that are "currently or recently offered". The guide does not say how far back recently reaches. That matters in a promotion, because a short discount can still fall inside the window.
Shipping is the other half. Walmart reviews the listing price and the shipping fee together. An item can be priced the same on two channels and still fail, if the Walmart shipping charge pushes the delivered total well above the other channel. This is the delivered-price trap. It catches sellers who think of price as one number.
If you are still setting the Amazon side, our pricing strategy guide covers the margin logic first. Then come back to the Walmart check.
Walmart reasonable price not satisfied: how to know it is your problem
- Read the reason code. If it says Reasonable Price Not Satisfied, this post is about your item. Walmart's list of reason codes also includes primary image missing, price missing, egregious shipping cost, pricing error and UPC mismatch. Each one has its own fix, and a price fix will not clear a UPC mismatch.
- Put the delivered prices side by side. Write down the Walmart total, item plus shipping, and the total on Amazon and on your own store for the same item.
- Look for a recent discount elsewhere. A coupon, a sale price or a promotion code on another channel is the first place to look, because it can open the gap quickly.
- Check the shipping on its own. If the reason is egregious shipping cost, the price comparison will not show the cause. Walmart lists that as a separate reason code, and it can also make an offer ineligible for the Buy Box.
What to check first
Work through these in order. The cheap checks come first, and each one tells you whether to go on to the next.
- The Unpublished Items dashboard. Open it in Seller Center and find the item. Or generate an Item Report. Confirm the reason code before you change anything.
- The reference price. Walmart's guide says to adjust using the reference price provided. Read that number first, so you aim at the figure Walmart is comparing, not at a guess.
- Your own totals on each channel. Pull the item price and the shipping charge on Amazon, on your Shopify store and on Walmart. Compare the totals, not the item prices.
- The shipping on the Walmart offer. Check it separately, because an egregious shipping charge is its own reason and needs its own change.
- The match. If Walmart compared your item with a different pack size or variant, the reference is wrong, not your price. That case needs the external price match route covered below.
How to fix it, step by step
Walk through this checklist before you change any price. It is the order I would work in, and the sheet is the one to print for the team.
1Read the reason code
Find the item in the Unpublished Items dashboard or an Item Report. Confirm it says Reasonable Price Not Satisfied.
2Compare the totals
Item plus shipping, on Amazon, on your Shopify store and on Walmart. Not the item prices alone.
3Check the shipping on its own
Egregious shipping cost is a separate reason code, and it needs its own change.
4Fix the total, or submit a match
Move the total toward the reference. If the reference is for a different item or variant, submit a comparable item URL.
The steps are AVA INC. guidance, built on Walmart's own guides. Walmart's external price match process is at the source below.
- Bring the total back in line. Lower the Walmart total, item plus shipping, toward the reference price Walmart shows. Walmart republishes the offer automatically once the item meets the rule again, typically within 48 hours.
- If the reference is wrong, submit a match. Walmart lets you submit the URL of a comparable item from the Pricing Insights or Listing Quality dashboard. Use it when the reference Walmart chose is for a different item or a variant of it. Walmart lets you submit one when you set up the item, or later. Walmart's guide on submitting an external price match sets out the steps.
- Fix the shipping separately. If the reason is egregious shipping cost, change the shipping on the Walmart offer. Walmart limits shipping cost edits to 10 per day for each Shipping Template, and locks the template for 24 hours if you go over. Cutting the item price alone may not clear it, because Egregious Shipping Cost is a separate rule from the price rule.
- Wait for the republish, then check. Walmart republishes the offer automatically. Check the item in the Unpublished Items view and on the storefront. If it has not come back after the usual 48 hours, check whether the reason code has changed before you change anything else.
How to stop it happening again
The rule runs automatically, so the protection you control is the order you change prices in.
- Check Walmart before every promotion. Compare the Walmart total with the sale price on Amazon and Shopify before the discount goes live. Checking after the item has disappeared costs you the sales in between.
- Match the Walmart total to a sale elsewhere. Before a discount goes live on Amazon or Shopify, lower the Walmart total toward the reference price, or hold the sale price off the other channel. A repricer rule can automate the check. This is AVA advice, not a Walmart setting.
- Turn on Seller Center notifications. Walmart says a subscribed seller is notified by email and in Seller Center when an offer is flagged. You hear about it while the problem is still one you can fix.
- Keep one owner for multichannel prices. When one person sets the Amazon, Shopify and Walmart prices, a discount on one channel is more likely to be checked against the others before it runs. Our multichannel selling tools guide covers the Walmart shipping rule that often sits next to this one.
If you sell on Walmart and want a second pair of eyes on the price and shipping before the next event, our Walmart seller services cover that work.
How Walmart Canada's test differs
The Canadian policy works on a different test. Walmart.ca calls it Price Leadership. It counts a cheaper price from other sellers on any other online sales channel, shipping included. Walmart's Canada pricing policy says items that break the rule may be removed from Walmart.ca.
If you sell on Walmart.ca, the test is, by our reading, wider than the US rule. Check the Canadian policy before you run a promotion on any channel, not only the US rule.
Get your Walmart prices checked before the next promotion
The rule is simple to state and easy to trigger by accident. If an item has gone unpublished, or you are about to run a discount next to a Walmart listing, we can compare the Walmart total with your other channels and line up the Walmart total before the event. The review is a look at your prices and shipping. How Walmart responds to a price change is Walmart's decision, so I will show you the gap and what closes it, and nothing more than that. Ask for a review of your Walmart pricing and tell us which channel is running the discount.
Common questions about Walmart's reasonable price rule
Does Walmart unpublish items for price without warning?
The pricing rule is automatic. Walmart's pricing rules guide (US) says a seller who has subscribed to Seller Center notifications is told by email and in Seller Center when an offer is flagged. Turn those notifications on so you hear about it as soon as an offer is flagged.
How long does Walmart take to republish an unpublished item?
Walmart says it republishes the offer automatically, typically within 48 hours, once the item meets the rule again, as its troubleshooting guide describes. If the item has not come back after that window, check whether the reason code has changed.
Is my lower Amazon price the reason Walmart unpublished my item?
It can be. The rule compares your Walmart total with prices recently offered for the same item on Walmart.com and other competing websites. Walmart does not name those sites, so treat Amazon and your own Shopify store as possible references and compare the totals on each channel.
Does the Walmart pricing rule apply in Canada?
Yes. Walmart.ca's Price Leadership wording counts a cheaper price from other sellers on any other online sales channel, including shipping, and items that break it may be removed from Walmart.ca. Read the Canada pricing policy before you run a promotion there.
