Walmart listings unpublished: which rule took them down and the fix
Walmart unpublished your listings? Read the reason code first: price, shipping, too-low price or the twice-yearly under-performing review decide the fix.

The short answer
- Walmart listings unpublished: the Unpublished Items dashboard says why each item came down. Read the reason code and change nothing until you have.
- Price too high: Walmart's pricing rule unpublishes an offer priced egregiously higher than current or recent prices. Update the price and Walmart republishes it, typically within 48 hours.
- Shipping too high: a separate rule measures the shipping fee against the item price. Make the fee more competitive in the shipping template.
- Price too low: Walmart can also unpublish an offer priced too low. Raise it toward the Reference price shown on the dashboard.
- Under-performing: Walmart reviews all Marketplace listings twice a year. An item removed this way is not relisted until the listing has substantially improved.
- Turn on notifications: a seller subscribed to Seller Center notifications is told by email when an offer is unpublished.
Walmart listings unpublished is the quietest way to lose a day of sales. Nothing arrives to tell you. The item just stops showing, and the first sign is a flat sales chart. Walmart's own guide says to look in the Unpublished Items dashboard in Seller Center, or to generate an Item Report, to see which items were hit.
The useful part is that the dashboard names a reason, and the reason decides what you do next. Most of the reasons clear once you fix the condition, and Walmart republishes the offer. One does not clear until the listing itself improves, so a few days of waiting helps the first group and does nothing for the second.
This post separates them: the pricing rule, the shipping rule, the too-low price rule, and the twice-yearly under-performing review. It covers how to tell which one you have, what to check first, and how to keep it from repeating.

Why does Walmart unpublish listings?
Walmart applies rules to each offer, and the reason an item comes down is written on the dashboard. Walmart's guide to unpublished items covers a missing primary image, a missing price, an egregious shipping cost, Reasonable Price Not Satisfied, a pricing error and a UPC mismatch.
Three of those reasons are about a number you set, and one works on a calendar. I will take them in turn.
The pricing rule. Walmart says an offer priced egregiously higher than prices currently or recently offered for the same item is flagged by the pricing rule and unpublished. The reason code reads Reasonable Price Not Satisfied. Walmart's pricing rules page says Walmart reviews the offer's listing price and the shipping fee. We wrote up how a lower Amazon or Shopify price can feed this one in our reasonable price not satisfied guide.
The shipping rule. Egregious shipping cost is measured as the shipping price relative to the item price. The pricing rules page adds that it can unpublish an offer or make it ineligible for the Buy Box.
The too-low rule. This is the one that reads backwards. Walmart may unpublish offers priced too low, to protect the seller from unintended losses and the customer from cancellations. The guide calls this reason Pricing Error. A typo in a price feed is the case I would check first.
The under-performing review. This one is not a pricing event at all, and it works differently from the other three. It is the reason to read the code before you wait.
How to know which one you have
- Open the dashboard. Walmart puts unpublished items in the Unpublished Items dashboard in Seller Center. An Item Report also shows which items were affected.
- Read the code on one item. Reasonable Price Not Satisfied, egregious shipping cost and pricing error each point at a number you can change.
- Look at the count. One item with a code is an item problem. Many items carrying the same code at once usually share the same condition, such as one shipping template or one price feed. That is my reading, not something Walmart states.
- Check what is missing. A primary image missing or a price missing is a data gap, and a UPC mismatch is a business policy issue. Neither is a pricing event.

What to check first
Work through these in order. The cheap checks come first, and each one tells you whether to carry on.
- The reason code. Confirm it on the dashboard before you touch a price. A price fix does nothing for a UPC mismatch.
- The Reference price. Walmart's guide says the dashboard shows a Reference price for the unpublished item. Walmart calculates it from competitor website prices, your historical selling price, the Buy Box winner price, the average offer price, and Walmart's own online and store prices. Walmart gives it as a benchmark, so aiming at it is sensible. That part is AVA advice.
- The shipping template. If the code is egregious shipping cost, the price comparison will not show the cause. Walmart limits shipping cost edits to 10 per day for each shipping template, and locks the template for 24 hours if you go over. Plan the change once rather than testing three values.
- The price feed. If the code is Pricing Error, look for a price that went into the feed too low. Check whether it was intended.
- The content owner. If the code is primary image missing, Walmart says it may choose which content shows unless it comes from the brand owner or an authorized reseller, and items that cannot be updated appear locked. Update the image first. If the item cannot be updated, contact support in Seller Center.
How it gets fixed, by reason
Reasonable Price Not Satisfied
Walmart's remedy is to update your price, which in practice means lowering it, or to wait for competitor or Walmart prices to change. Once the offer meets the rule again, Walmart republishes it, which it says typically takes up to 48 hours. Keep adjusting until the item no longer breaks the rule.
Egregious shipping cost
Update the shipping fee in the shipping template to be more competitive. Once the fee is back in an acceptable range relative to the item price, Walmart republishes the offer, typically up to 48 hours.
Pricing Error
Raise the price toward the Reference price or other price signals until it complies. Republishing typically takes up to 48 hours. If the low price was intentional, Walmart lets you send supporting documentation through the Help button in Seller Center. It reviews that at its discretion and is not obligated to reinstate the offer, so treat the documentation as the second option, not the plan.
UPC mismatch
This is a business policy issue. Walmart's fix is to update the product ID and resubmit. If you believe the item was unpublished in error, you can appeal from the Unpublished Items dashboard.
The under-performing review
Here the advice flips. Walmart's under-performing item removal policy says it reviews all Marketplace listings twice a year, and that it can also unpublish items at any time. An item has to be listed and transactable for a predetermined timeframe, which varies by category and seasonality. The page does not give a number.
The indicators Walmart names include no sales of the item in that timeframe, and no sales of any items in the same variant group. The page says the list is not exhaustive. I read the variant group wording as meaning one slow variation is not judged alone, but Walmart does not spell that out. Walmart lists exceptions for strategic items or categories, and for slow-moving items.
The relisting rule decides what you do. An unpublished item is not relisted until there is a substantial improvement to the listing. I read that to mean putting the same listing back unchanged will not do. If the same item is removed multiple times, Walmart says it may remove it from the catalogue permanently. So this is the one case where waiting does nothing.
I can only tell you what Walmart's page says here. It does not say where in Seller Center an under-performing removal shows up, so if an item is gone with no pricing or shipping code, ask Seller Support which reason applies before you rebuild anything.
A separate route: policy removals
Separate from the automated pricing rules, Walmart's Trust and Safety policy, last updated 22 October 2026, says listings that violate its regulatory compliance, offensive product or intellectual property policies will be unpublished. If no pricing, shipping or data code explains the removal, read your Seller Center notifications for a policy message. We have no public account of how often this one appears, so I will not guess at it.
How to stop it happening again
- Subscribe to notifications. Walmart's pricing rules page says a seller subscribed to Seller Center notifications receives an email and an in-Seller Center alert when an offer is unpublished. Without that, you find out from the sales chart.
- Check the dashboard on a schedule. A weekly look at the Unpublished Items dashboard, or an Item Report, catches an item that came down quietly. The weekly rhythm is AVA advice, not a Walmart setting.
- Change shipping templates once. With a limit of 10 shipping cost edits a day on each template and a 24 hour lock, a template you adjust by trial and error can lock you out while the offer is down.
- Review slow variations before the twice-yearly review. A family where nothing sold is the pattern Walmart names. Improve the listing, or decide it should not be live. This one is judgement, not a rule.
- Look at the rest of the Walmart picture. Unpublished items sit next to metrics that behave differently from Amazon's. Our guide to Walmart's seller metrics covers what breaks when you expand.
Get your Walmart catalogue read before the next sweep
If items have gone unpublished and the reason is not clear, or you want the dashboard read before the next twice-yearly review, our Walmart seller services cover that work. I will go through the reason codes with you, show which items are a price or shipping fix and which need a rebuild, and tell you plainly where a case needs Walmart's own answer. I cannot promise Walmart will republish a given item, because that is Walmart's decision. Ask for a review of your Walmart catalogue and tell us which reason codes you are seeing.
Common questions about Walmart unpublished listings
Where do I see why Walmart unpublished my item?
Walmart's guide to unpublished items points to the Unpublished Items dashboard in Seller Center, and to an Item Report for checking which items were affected. The reason code on the dashboard tells you which fix applies.
How long does Walmart take to republish an item?
For the pricing, shipping and pricing error reasons, Walmart says republishing typically takes up to 48 hours once the offer meets the rule again. That timing does not apply to an item removed as under-performing, which stays down until the listing has substantially improved.
Can Walmart unpublish an item for being priced too low?
Yes. Walmart's guide says it may unpublish offers priced too low to protect sellers and customers from unintended losses and cancellations. Raise the price toward the Reference price, or send supporting documentation through the Help button if the price was intentional. Walmart reviews that at its discretion.
What is the Reference price on the Unpublished Items dashboard?
It is a competitive price Walmart calculates for the unpublished item. Walmart says it draws on competitor website prices, your historical selling price, the Buy Box winner price, the average offer price, and Walmart's own online and store prices.
Does Walmart remove items that do not sell?
Walmart's under-performing item removal policy says it reviews all Marketplace listings twice a year and unpublishes those it judges under-performing. It names no sales of the item, or of any item in the same variant group, as indicators, and says the list is not exhaustive.
